The fact that we build evidence to support our beliefs is not evidence that a law of attraction exists. Whether that’s what someone intended to say or not, it doesn’t really matter because it’s the energy behind the words.

What The Secret didn’t share is that activating the Law of Attraction requires more than inherent desire, an active imagination, and creating a vision board. Positive affirmations don’t work as a standalone. Meaning, a person who is broke isn’t going to manifest his or her rent by sitting around thinking positive thoughts alone. Latent content and manifest content are two concepts introduced by Sigmuend Freud to help people understand the meaning of their dreams. The manifest content is the parts of a dream that people remember, or the story line of the dream. Latent content is the hidden, inferred part of the dream that people cannot usually recall but shows the true meaning of the dream.
Avoid pinning the idea to a specific person, a specific house, a specific job, etc. If you are looking to manifest a relationship, define the relationship not the person you think you would like to be in the relationship with. If you are looking for a new home define the home walk through it room by room in your mind, define the characteristics of the neighborhood or climate. Let the Universe identify who the person is or what place exactly meets the characteristics you have identified. Once you have completed your definition of your dream, you have placed your order with the Universe. Surrender to the process, trust in the universal wisdom. The manifest content can be interpreted as the information that the conscious individual remembers experiencing. It consists of all the elements of actual images, thoughts, and content within the dream that the individual is cognitively aware of upon awakening. Illustrated through iceberg imagery, the manifest content would be identified as the “tip”: it is barely exposed above the surface with an enormous portion still hidden underneath. As the hallmark of psychoanalytic theory suggests, what is observed on the surface is only a partial representation of the vastness that lies beneath (Friedman & Schustack, 2012). Although images may initially appear bizarre and nonsensical, individual analysis of the dream can reveal its underlying meaning.
And NOT EVERYTHING is your fault. As a psychologist, you should know that we have 65000 thoughts a day and most of them are not conscious. In that case how are you supposed to know that you were thinking so subconsciously? (SUBCONSCIOUS thoughts matter too!). In fact, LoA users use their subconscious mind as a great asset. The truth about the law of attraction is actually simple.
I like to engage in these creative visualizations for five minutes or so just before I quiet my mind to meditate. It's a great pre-meditation practice because I can allow my mind to be actively focused on the visualizations before I ask it to stop ‘doing.' You can do it in the car while you wait at a red light. You can do it before bed — again a great way to focus and quiet the mind prior to sleep. Even better if you go to sleep holding in your mind's eye the dreams you wish for yourself.  It doesn't matter really, the main thing is to practice specific visualizations every day.

How your mind works and how you think continually defines, creates, and shapes your reality. Every single thought has some impact on this process, even thoughts that may seem minor or inconsequential. The universe responds to your consciousness level and is always listening. When you’re sending out feelings of appreciation, joy, and gratitude, then whatever you want will seem to appear.
4. ASK FOR ASSISTANCE. Ask your Angels, your Spirit Guides, and your Higher Self for assistance and pay attention to the signs. I know this seems crazy, but if you want something, you have to ask for it. Silly concept! If you don’t ask, your divine guidance can’t help you. They’re just hanging out, waiting for you to put them to work, so ask them for help!

Going to work: I wrote down and got super clear on the characteristics of my ideal partner. Then I asked myself, could I offer these characteristics to a partner today? In doing so, I realized that I don’t have unconditional love for myself, so how can I truly offer that to someone else? For the next 30 days I’m going to journal and bring awareness to my negative self talk and limiting beliefs that tell me “I’m not good enough” and start working on those. I have to take care of me before the Universe can take care of me.
You have set your intention and know what you want from the universe, so now you must take action to ensure that your dream is manifested into a reality. If you set your goal and then put it to the back of your mind, it will never become a reality. Remember, you are what you give your attention to. Therefore, you should try to fuel your dream with as much positive attention as possible.

Human beings are creatures of habit, and the well-worn paths that our lives follow are habits we have developed throughout our lifetimes. Habits don’t change overnight. Very few of us can just decide that we’re going to change something and then sustain a new behavior without looking back. It takes time and patience to change longstanding habits. And it takes practice. Many manifestation teachings don’t include specific practices to help embed the new habits of thought into the subconscious mind. If resistance persists, look at your dreams and question whether they truly come from your heart's desire. Perhaps you're questioning your belief in the process (see habit #1). For example, say your dream is to adopt a child. You really want to adopt this child because it will bring you feelings of heroism, unconditional love, and joy. In order to become a vibrational match to having that child, all you have to is start practicing those emotions now! Find the places in your life where you already feel like the hero, you already practice unconditional love and you already find joy. 
As a mind-reader, you should try to ATTRACT a different job, since in no way do I have any anger towards anyone with erroneous beliefs. I do feel sorry for you, but this is not anger. This is a free country and free society and you are free to believe anything you desire and free to waste your time as you see fit. You can smoke cigarettes as well. They will harm you and that is your choice. Same as a belief in a LOA.
You may find that you thought you knew exactly what you wanted, but now that you are no longer defining your dream in terms of what it lacks you are no longer sure what it is that you really desire. Definition, clarity this is often the most challenging part of the process and where novice manifestors give up. Do not give in; take as long as it takes to get clear on what you want in your life. What do you want to create?
I kept hearing about this book. I expected it to be a new age, wish on a star book. But, it was a good read. It reminded me that, at least to some extent, we do create our own reality by the attitude we project. If we are a grump, we attract other grumps, not happy persons, to us. And so on.
